Abrasive Media
MacGregor and Moir distributes a broad line of fused mineral products designed to meet the needs of your particular industry or application. Our products come in a variety of grit, bead sizes and qualities including:
- Brown Fused Alumina
- White Fused Alumina
- Pink Fused Alumina
- Honite Glass Bead
- Plastic Bead
- Silicon Carbide
All of the abrasive medias we offer are certified to aerospace specifications, including CSS8, CSS12, PWA, FEPA & GE.
Brown Fused Alumina
Brown fused aluminum oxide is a tough, hard material (Mohs hardness 9) with high strength, excellent wear and corrosion resistance and good thermal conductivity. Fused alumina ia widely used as a raw material in refreactories, ceramics shapes, grinding wheels, sandpaper, blasting media, metal preparation, laminates, coatings, lapping, polishing, grinding and hundreds of other applications.
White Fused Alumina
White fused alumina offers the highest purity and is widely used as a raw material in refractories, ceramics shapes, grinding wheels, sandpaper, blasting media, metal preparation, laminates, coatings, lapping, polishing, grinding and hundreds of other applications.
Pink Fused Alumina
A chromium, ruby colored, fused aluminum oxide that is free of titania. It is made by fusing high purity calcine alumina and chromium oxide. It is a friable abrasive, but due to the chromium addition, it is somewhat tougher than white aluminum oxide.
Honite Glass Bead
Honite is a glass bead manufactured primarily for blast finishing and polishing applications. The material has minimal inpurities and generally inert being available in a range of bead sizes suitable for a wide variety of cleaning, finishing and peening applications.
Plastic Bead
Our plastic bead is commonly known as US Type 2 plastic media and is a urea based thermoset resin manufactured to produce angular shapes that clean with by chipping and shearing. Due to its inherent softness our plastic media is ideal for cleaning delicate and introcate products or removing residue and grease whilst leaving the underlying product undamaged.
Silicon Carbide
Silicon Carbide is a man-made material manufactured through heating silica sand and carbon to high temperatures in the Acheson furnace technique. Silicon carbide is an extremely hard material (Mohs hardness 9.25), is chemically inert and does not melt. Silicon carbie’s varied properties make it an effective material in many different applications. The properties of our silicon carbide grits and powders make it ideal for many industries and applications including: wire sawing silicon wafers, ceramic body armor, ceramic wear parts, semiconductor materials, power switching, high temperature heating elements, refractories, sandpaper, grinding wheels, gem polishing, advanced ceramics, diesel particulate filters, thermal sprays, aerospace applications, lapping, iron and steel and many others.
